J. M. Kessler is the author of the children’s book, The Squirrelly Nut Gig. Her short fiction has appeared in Macramé Literary Journal and Lively Arts Magazine, and her non-fiction has appeared on diymfa.com. Her one-act plays have been produced in Los Angeles, and her radio theatre play was produced for New Frequency, with whom she performed for one season. She has a BA in Theatre Arts, and currently lives in northern New Jersey with her partner, producer John Lant. Member SCBWI. 

More About Me

I remember learning to spell a particular word in kindergarten. We were waiting for our teacher to begin class, and I heard the girl behind me say that she had learned how to spell this word. Kids gathered around her desk like scientists around a Petri dish. This was vital information. I listened, and as she spelled out the word I wrote down each lowercase letter; a line and a curve, a line and a curve, a line and a curve: red. And I remember the wonder I felt that such a small word could be such a big color.

I wrote my first story in first grade, and my first book in third grade. ​I was the student who loved essay tests. I love words. I love the creative process. I love how a thought can turn into something you can hold in your hands.
